When a referral happens
The provider treating you may refer you when pain persists, limits your progress in therapy, or points to a problem that needs a medical evaluation.
The first visit
A history of the injury, a review of any imaging, a physical exam and a discussion of options.
What care can include
Medication management and, when appropriate, injections. The provider explains what is being recommended and why.
How it fits with other care
Pain management usually works alongside chiropractic care or physical therapy. Each provider adds its notes to your record.
